The Goodison Chronometer was our homage to The Grand Old Lady.
The Goodison 3.1 Automatic celebrates the greatest game ever played there, the 3-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the semi-final second leg of the European Cup Winners’ Cup on the evening of 24th April 1985.
If you were there, you’ll never forget it. If you weren’t, you’ve heard the stories a thousand times. Howard Kendall’s magnificent side, trailing 0-1 at half-time, roared back under the floodlights. The last thing Howard said to his team as they left the dressing room for the second half was "Get the ball into the box and the Gwladys Street will suck the ball into the net." Prescient words as his side went on to score three times at that end to win the game.
Co-designed by Mike France, one of our founders and a lifelong Evertonian, who was in the Main Stand with his brother that very night. This isn’t just another limited edition watch, it’s a love letter to, arguably, the greatest Everton team of all time, to Goodison Park and to the Everton fans who filled it to bursting point on this night like no other.
The Goodison 3.1 Automatic captures that magic through obsessive and informed attention to detail. Everton’s badge at that time sits proudly on the dial with the EFC initials being applied above the printed Prince Rupert’s tower and laurel leaves. The date, 24/04/1985 and the score sit at 6 o’clock just above the date window which picks out the shirt numbers of the three scorers for Everton, Graeme Sharp, Andy Gray and Trevor Steven in Everton amber on the rotating date disc.
As the watch is based on our best-selling C60 Trident Reef dive watch, it also has a uni-directional bezel which not only allows for accurate timing of the first and second half of games, but by cleverly using the second half minutes, the times of Everton’s goals (48th, 73rd and 86th minutes) are also marked on the bezel. Even the kit worn that night is featured, not only in the accurate pantone colours of the time but in the white ‘V’ inset of the shirt and its distinctive blue lines of the collar, sleeves, shorts and socks. Turn the watch over and Howard Kendall’s words are there, surrounding a deep-stamped aerial view of Goodison Park as it was in 1985.
Some nights demand to be remembered. The Goodison 3.1 Automatic makes sure this one is.
