Like Dixie, it’s got perfect timing
Like Dixie, it’s got perfect timing
The word ‘legend’ is often overused in football.
But when it comes to William Ralph ‘Dixie’ Dean, there’s no argument. The greatest centre forward of his day, in the 1927-28 season, he scored a remarkable 60 goals for Everton – still a record for English football’s top flight.
And now Christopher Ward, as Everton’s global timekeeping partner, has produced a unique mechanical watch to celebrate his achievements: the Dixie Dean Chronometer.
Limited to 60 pieces, each individual watch carries a steel plate on the dial displaying a particular goal from the 1927-28 season. Meanwhile, the marine-grade steel case back has been stamped with Everton’s badge from the season, and the date and time Dixie scored the goal.
The royal-blue dial provides you with a range of timing options. As well as its ability to tell the time, the Dixie Dean Chronometer is also a stopwatch that can be used to monitor one half of a match via the ‘soccer time’ subdial at 3 o’clock. Meanwhile, the handset and indexes are coated with Super-LumiNova® C1 GL Grade X1 paint – which delivers visibility after dark.
The watch’s power comes from its Sellita SW510 BH b ‘bicompax’ automatic movement. Not only does this provide stopwatch functionality, but its ‘chronometer’ status puts it in the top six percent of Swiss movements for accuracy. Its 48-hour power reserve also means you can take it off for two days, and it’ll still keep ticking.
Accurate, powerful – and devoted to one club, the Dixie Dean Chronometer is fitting tribute to a man who remains a legend for Evertonians everywhere.
All profits from the sale of this watch will be donated to Everton in the Community.

Sellita SW510 BH b Automatic
Produced from the same patents as the legendary Valjoux 7750, the Sellita SW510 BH b is a ‘bicompax’ automatic movement with twin subdials and stopwatch functionality.
Like the 7750, the movement has a 48-hour power reserve and a beat frequency of 28,800 – but also adds two extra jewels, helping to reduce friction over time.
The SW510 BH b has two pushers. The top one starts the central seconds hand with minutes amassing on a counter at 3 o’clock. To stop the hand, merely press the pusher again. You’re then able to reset the timer by pressing the lower pusher.
The SW510 BH b also has a date wheel which can be seen at 6 o’clock, while an integrated anti-shock system maintains accuracy under duress.
